Ian Hitchworth is Rapid
Sound Recordist
Still in post-production…
Director: Pip Woolway
Sound Designer: Rory Gauld
A graduate comedy mockumentary following Ian Hitchworth, the son of an Olympic sprinter, striving to live up to his fathers legacy.
My experience
In this project, I got to test out experimental mixing techniques. Since this is a mockumentary, there was an aim to make the audience aware of the crew and break the fourth wall regularly, using these elements to create comedic moments.
My director and I had a meeting beforehand to discuss recording techniques, which I shared with the sound designer. For the characters who were a part of the “documentary” (the interviewer and Ian), we would place the radio mics on their costumes, as we would for a normal interview. For any characters that were not a direct part of the “documentary” we would hide the radio mics so that they felt more like “real people”.
